Why Tea? : The Power of Nature |

Green tea and black
tea start from the same tea leaf. Green tea is generally just dried and
packaged, while black tea undergoes further processing. Because green tea is
closer to tea's natural state, it has higher concentrations of polyphenols, the
compounds that researchers think provide most of tea's benefits.
Polyphenols occur naturally in plants and are extremely powerful antioxidants,
which play a key role in your body's health. Molecules called free radicals are
constantly attacking the cells in your body, and are implicated in heart
disease, cancer, and many of the physical signs we associate with aging.
Antioxidants help to protect your body from the ravages of the free radicals —
and can also help to reverse damage they have already done.
There are many sources of antioxidants, but those in green tea are both highly
concentrated and extremely effective. According to scientists, the polyphenols
in green tea are antioxidants 20 times more powerful than Vitamin E and 200
times more than Vitamin C.
