Why Theaflavins? |

 |
Recent studies have shown that theaflavins, a group of compounds found in tea,
can lower the level of "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and raise the level of "good"
(HDL) cholesterol. But what are theaflavins, and how can they benefit you?
Theaflavins, which comprise a mixture of theaflavin, theaflavin-3-gallate,
theaflavin-3’-gallate and theaflavin-3,3’-digallate, are typically formed via polymerization
of green tea polyphenols (i.e., flavanoids) during fermentation of green tea to black tea.
Theaflavins are unique active ingredients that are produced when green tea ferments and changes
into black or oolong tea. They are responsible for the characteristic color and flavor of black tea.
Tea is a rich source of polyphenols called flavonoids, effective antioxidants
found throughout the plant kingdom. A group of flavonoids in green tea are
known as catechins, which are quickly absorbed into the body and are thought to
contribute to some of the potential health benefits of tea. Many catechins are
transformed into theaflavins during tea manufacturing.
Theaflavins have recognized medicinal benefits, and scientists have studied
their positive effects on cardiovascular health, cancer, the immune system,
metabolism, diabetes, and other areas. To learn more about the company that
